Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the promised Messiah (Jn. 1:41-51; 4:23-29 v. 26). Messiah
is the Hebrew word and Christ added to His given name is the Greek word (Matt. 1:1,
16, 18-21). Both words refer to the same person and mean the same thing: the anointed
one. The Messiah is the anointed one of God. Matthew said Jesus "is called Christ" (Matt
1:16). He is recognized as the anointed one of God, the Messiah Himself who is the bona
fide Saviour of the world (Jn. 4:23-26, 28-29, 39-42; Acts 2:22-36). After His bodily
resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, exaltation and glorification, God
has made Jesus Christ both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:31-36). He is Lord of all to be both
Saviour and Judge of all creation (Acts 10:33-44 vv. 36, 42-43). He is Lord both of the
living and the dead (Rom. 14:7-9) to be obeyed and worshipped (served and adored)
with the Father (Matt. 28:18-20; Jn. 4:19-24; Acts 17:23-31; 24:11-14; Rom. 1:9; 12:1-
2; 1 Cor. 14:25; 1 Thess. 1:3-9; Heb. 1:6; Rev. 4:1-11; 5:9-14; 19:10; 22:8-9).
