The word "rapture" translates the Latin word rapto (Gk-harpazo) and means the "catching up" of saints - both living and dead. Saints here refers only to believers in Jesus Christ, the Church, starting from the time of her inauguration on the Day of Pentecost until the return of Christ in the air. Although the word does not occur in the Bible, it is widely used in theology to describe the appearance of Jesus in the air to gather the saints to heaven, His Father's home. The dead in Christ, all believers in Christ Jesus who have died will resurrect in their new and glorified body (1 Cor. 15:51-54). The bodies of living saints, all believers in Christ Jesus will be transformed from mortality to immortality, which is the final redemption of the body. The dead will resurrect first and the living will be translated. Both will, together, be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.
